I’ve got a heartwarming story to share with you today, and it involves a wonderful family I’ve had the pleasure of photographing. This horse photo session is one for the books!
So, let’s talk about my neighbor and longtime family friend, Laura. We have known each other most of our lives. I grew up right next to her grandparent’s home, where she visited often. You would catch us running through the fields together.
Her family has a beautiful legacy steeped in equestrian adventures.
Laura recently reached out to me for a unique family photo session featuring her mom, aunt, cousins, and, of course, their majestic horses.
This wasn’t just any horse photo shoot—it was a heartfelt tribute to Laura’s grandparents, Frank and Carol. Now, these two amazing souls were the ones who raised these ladies on horseback, instilling in them not just the skills of riding but a deep love and connection with these magnificent animals.
We decided to stage the session at a spot that holds sentimental value—the same place where I had the pleasure of capturing her niece Grace’s senior photos. Back to the beautiful Kettle Moraine State Forest.
Picture this: rolling hills, lush greenery, and an unmistakable charm that makes it the perfect backdrop for such a special occasion.
But, let me tell you, Mother Nature had other plans that day.
Rain, rain, and more rain!
Laura and I went back and forth, contemplating a reschedule for a drier day. However, Laura’s mom, the determined DeAnn, had a different perspective. She insisted that the session had to happen that day, rain or shine.
And you know what? DeAnn was onto something.
Against all odds, the rain miraculously stopped, giving way to the most breathtaking clear skies. It was a true golden hour moment, and it transformed an initially gloomy day into a radiant, magical experience.
As you scroll through the photos, you’ll see what I mean. The ladies’ hair is aglow, the rims of their hats are illuminated, and even the horses seem to radiate a special kind of magic. It turned out to be one of those sessions where everything falls into place, reminding me why I love what I do.
This horse photo session wasn’t just about capturing moments; it was about honoring the legacy of Frank and Carol, celebrating the bond between family and their four-legged companions. I felt privileged to be a part of this intimate and meaningful ride.
Let’s Go, Girls!
And, let me tell you, hanging out with these ladies was nothing short of cool. I mean I FELT cooler just being there.
Shania Twain’s “Let’s Go Girls” played like a soundtrack in my head throughout the session, adding an extra layer of epic to the day.
Laura, DeAnn, and ladies… thank you for including me in this unforgettable adventure. It was more than a photo session; it was a radiant tribute to love, family, and the enduring spirit of those who came before us.
Until the next time, keep shining, and let’s go, girls!
